Coordinating closely with leading designers at a US Dept. of Energy National Laboratories, Metalex successfully developed specialized manufacturing processes required to successfully delivery a complete target module assembly capable of meeting the needs of the researches at the national laboratory.
This prototype nuclear device is designed to produce and control pulses of neutron radiation by splitting neutrons from mercury atoms through the bombardment of a target module by protons fired from a linear accelerator at the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) facility at Oak Ridge, the target module helps scientists create the most intense pulsed neutron beams ever achieved to explore the world on an atomic scale.
Working together with SNS scientists and engineers, the team at Metalex overcame numerous engineering challenges and leveraged advanced technology on behalf of its customer to deliver this project and help push science forward.
Based on our work on these projects, Metalex was selected as the U.S. Small Business Administration’s National Subcontractor of the Year.
