The NASA Langley 8-ft high temperature tunnel is a combustion-heated hypersonic blow down wind tunnel that has been used to provide flight simulation for mach numbers ranging from 4-7.
Metalex manufactured and assembled extensions for the new insert which our customer and NASA designed with a Mach 3 exit flow for testing turbine-based combined cycle engine. The material used for this large complex assembly included 304 stainless steel and several types of nickel alloys. The OD of the assembly was 77” (6.4 ft) at its largest point with an length of approximately 214”
